I grew up in a Christian home, but it was not until I was 7 years old that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  I was lead by my Sunday-School teacher at Central Baptist Church in Garland which is now called New Heights Baptist Church.  My teacher talked to me after class and showed me how to be saved.  It was not until about two or three years later that I decided to get baptized.  I think I was just waiting until I understood what baptism meant.

I met my husband in 1987.  While he was not a Christian, I continued to talk to him about the Lord.  We married in July 1988 and he became a Christian before we moved to Waco, TX in 1989.  There we built a home on the same street where, little did we know, our future Sunday-School teachers would live.  They were the kind of neighbors that asked us to church and built that relationship with us that we needed to get involved in a church.  Since getting married we had been reluctant to be faithful in church from mere laziness and, of course, moving to a new town.  We did attend church but not on a regular basis.  In 1992, at the age of 21, we had our first son. There was an overwhelming concern about him growing up knowing and trusting in Jesus, which ultimately lead us back to church faithfully.

Shortly after having our son, we made the decision that I would stay home.  At that time my husband was out of work on unemployment.  Although at first we were fearful and worried, we eventually trusted the Lord to meet our needs, and He did.  We prayed for weeks that the Lord would take care of us; we had an upcoming mortgage payment but no money to pay it.  My parents arrived to stay a week to help nurse me back to health after having the baby.  One evening my mother handed me an envelope full of cash that covered our expenses for two months.  She had no idea our needs or our prayers.

God provided through my parents.  They said, over the years they had tucked cash away for me and were going to give it to me on my wedding day but had decided to wait for my first child.  In addition my father had won a year’s supply of Huggies diapers.  Of course the Lord in his sovereignty prepared all this for us from the very start.

After recovering, we became very faithfully involved in our local church teaching kids, teens, camp counselor, & cleaning the church.  We stayed in Waco until we moved back to the Dallas area in 1995.  While we were in Waco, an evangelist by the name of Tim Lee spoke at a revival.  He mentioned his home church was in Garland, TX, so immediately after coming to the Dallas area we found his home church; Lavon Drive Baptist Church, which is currently where we have attended since 1995.

Through the years at Lavon, I have been involved in the children’s ministry, teaching Sunday-School to Pre-school through 2nd graders, VBS, & Awanas.  For the past 7 years, my husband and I have taught an adults’ Sunday-School Class called the Kingdom Seekers.  We are also currently on a committee that is discussing how to broaden our ministry opportunities across the globe through missionaries from our church.

We now have three sons, each of whom have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and it is our sincere desire to lead others to a saving relationship with Christ, as well as disciplining them.  We do this first and foremost by building relationships with people and then presenting the Gospel to them.  Through my ministry with Get Organized I intend to present to women God’s plan for their role in the home and to open up the dialogue amongst women in the church.

By sharing their burdens and struggles in the home we can build better relationships.  I believe that relationships are the key to keeping people plugged in and growing in God’s word.
